Sollio Agriculture team: Meet Rachel Goguen
As a human resources coordinator at Sollio Agriculture, it goes without saying that Rachel Goguen cares about our people. For her, “We’re here for you” isn’t just a slogan—it’s what gives her work meaning and keeps her motivated every day.
Question: What exactly does a human resources administrative coordinator do?
Answer: Ha! A bit of everything. I’m based in Moncton, New Brunswick, where I primarily support the VP of HR. I also assist the whole HR team and collaborate on special projects. And I’m a superuser for HR technology tools.
Question: Why did you choose to work for Sollio Agriculture?
Answer: When I was in school, I had to find an internship. At the time, I was interested in working at a detox centre, but my teacher said, “Rachel, don’t do that!” She suggested I look into Co-op Atlantic, and I did. I’m so grateful for her advice! I started there and stayed on when we were acquired by Sollio Agriculture.
Question: What made you decide to pursue a career at Sollio Agriculture?
Answer: The people—they make all the difference.
Question: Which company value inspires you the most?
Answer: The company’s down-to-earth attitude. We work with people, for people. So, being authentic is really important.
Question: Do you have a responsibility or achievement that you’re particularly proud of?
Answer: I have so many! We take on a big project nearly every year. One I’m particularly proud of is when we launched the intranet to connect with our employees more easily during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Question: Continuing with some rapid-fire questions. What’s something about you that might surprise people?
Answer: I’m not sure. But every time I visit my colleagues in Montréal, they love hearing my accent. They always ask me to speak Chiac!
Question: If you could do another job for a day, what would it be?
Answer: My dream would be to work on a small farm, taking care of cute, furry little animals!
Question: What’s your favourite food?
Answer: Anything with chocolate!
Question: What’s your favourite quote?
Answer: “The things that make you rich are free.”
Question: Who’s your most inspiring colleague?
Answer: Véronique Boutin. And I’m not just saying that because she’s my boss! She’s incredibly inspiring as both a manager and a mentor. She’s always there for me, even though we’re in different physical locations. I truly appreciate her.
Question: What advice would you give new employees starting out at Sollio Agriculture?
Answer: Be curious! Ask questions and be open to everything Sollio Agriculture has to offer. The company structure might seem complex at first, but it actually creates a lot of opportunities.
