Sollio Agriculture team: Meet Veronica Honores
Veronica Honores has been on Sollio Agriculture’s finance team since 2021. She believes that the values of our cooperative are very similar to the ones her parents taught her growing up in Peru, including kindness and the importance of working together.
Question: Veronica, can you tell us a bit about your career thus far?
Answer: I completed a bachelor’s degree in administration in Peru and, after moving to Quebec in 2008, completed an attestation of college studies in accounting. I’m now an accounts receivable technician at Sollio Agriculture.
Question: What does an accounts receivable technician do?
Answer: Lots of things! In short, you could say I’m responsible for recognizing receipts from both external and internal customers, adjusting accounts as needed, and processing pre-authorized payments from Farm Credit Canada.
Question: Why did you decide to pursue a career at Sollio Agriculture?
Answer: Because it’s a place where people from diverse backgrounds work together, united by a deep love of the earth. The organization also thinks of future generations, delivering quality products that help feed the world. I’m proud to be a small part of that big mission.
Question: How do you stay motivated every day?
Answer: I love that no two days are the same and that we have exciting challenges. It’s also incredibly motivating to work for an organization that cares about the well-being of all its employees, no matter where they’re from or what they do.
Question: Do you have a responsibility or achievement that you’re particularly proud of?
Answer: When we announced the installation of a machine to automate chick classification, I was asked to serve as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking foreign workers. I explained the impact the machine would have on their work and outlined the options available to them. I reassured them during a delicate and serious situation. I’m proud to have been able to help, and I’m especially proud that the HR team made sure no one was left out.
Question: Who’s your most inspiring colleague?
Answer: I admire everyone on my team! Many of my colleagues come from different countries, and we all have bachelor’s degrees and are very qualified for our jobs.
Question: Continuing with some rapid-fire questions. What’s something about you that might surprise your colleagues?
Answer: I play volleyball in a recreational league every week.
Question: What was the last book you read?
Answer: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
Question: If you could listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Answer: Any Bob Marley song! His music keeps me motivated and puts me in a good mood.
Question: What’s your favourite food?
Answer: Lomo saltado. It’s a traditional Peruvian dish that I often make for my son. We both love it!
Question: To conclude, do you have any advice for new employees starting out at Sollio Agriculture?
Answer: Take the time to learn about Sollio Agriculture—its history, mission, values, objectives, customers, and products. The more you know, the better equipped you’ll be to seize opportunities and shine in your role.
