Sustainable farming: Our agri-advisors are here to help
Farmers who want to adopt best practices for sustainable agriculture need look no further than Sollio Agriculture’s agri-environmental agri-advisors, who are always up on the latest innovations and developments in the field.
As part of Congrès végétal 2024, agri-environmental agri-advisors from across Québec and Eastern Ontario came together for two day–long training sessions on sustainable farming.
“Our goal with these training sessions is to explain where we are in terms of sustainable farming, share the new initiatives we’re working on, and enable our people in the field,” says Maude Fournier-Farley, Sollio Agriculture’s senior director of innovation and business solutions.
For farmers, this means:
Sound advice throughout the season
A sustainable farming diagnosis and year-over-year tracking
Planning and support with adopting beneficial management practices
Sustainable agriculture strategies
Speakers at Congrès végétal 2024 discussed many topics, including:
Carbon credits in agriculture and AgroCarbone Grandes cultures
Artificial intelligence on the farm
Organic farming
The innovation strategies presented during the training sessions will guide the work of Sollio Agriculture’s research farm. “We conduct research, train our agri-advisors, and ultimately, farmers benefit from that expertise,” says Fournier-Farley.
A major transition
This is the first time Sollio Agriculture has organized an event specifically on the increasingly important issue of sustainable farming. Around 30 agri-environmental agri-advisors attended to expand their knowledge and trade ideas with the speakers.
The training sessions are part of Sollio Agriculture’s transition to more sustainable agriculture.
“Society is changing, and consumer demands are changing,” Fournier-Farley says. “Organizations like ours need to evolve and keep up with those changes. That’s why we have a corporate responsibility plan and a definition of sustainable agriculture based on economic, human, ethical and environmental considerations.”
Agri-advisors also attend other day–long training sessions on sustainable agriculture and best practices, including at the research farm and at Sollio Agriculture’s Agri-advisor Meetings, where they learn about the latest developments and research results.
