Agri-advisors put their knowledge to work for farmers
When our agri-advisors receive a question from a farmer, they answer based on the technical and practical knowledge they have gained over the years, as well as all the first-hand experience they have gained in their careers. Our agri-advisors include agronomists and professional technologists, some who grew up on a farm and some who did not, but they all bring their full knowledge to the table when it comes to making informed recommendations to farmers.
Sollio Agriculture supports its network of agri-advisors with a small army of specialized advisors, professionals specializing in different areas of livestock production and crop production. On the livestock production side, our cooperatives receive ongoing support from six dairy production advisors, a specialized livestock advisor, a poultry advisor and a number of other agronomists whose role is to share the latest research findings with our agri-advisors.
In practice, this means attending conferences and webinars, reading scientific reports and so on. And because knowledge is not just found in books, our specialized advisors also meet with dozens of farmers each year to assess the response to different technologies based on the particular circumstances of each farm.
They then pass on what they have learned to the agri-advisors, who use this knowledge to make the best recommendations.
New technologies in agriculture
To improve yourself, you need to be able to benchmark yourself. And to do that, you need reliable, standardized data (“big data”) to perform various analyses.
At Sollio Agriculture, we get our big data through AgConnexion, an essential tool in the agri-advisor’s arsenal. Every week, no less than 500,000 new data points are added to AgConnexion. Agri-advisors use this data to refine their analyses and make suggestions for improving farm productivity and performance.
The data available in AgConnexion is managed in accordance with the standards of Ag Data Transparent certification.
Efficient, sustainable agriculture
Knowledge transfer in livestock production will naturally focus on improving performance, while taking into account animal welfare and the objective of practising sustainable agriculture.
More than ever, consumers value agricultural products made using efficient, sustainable practices, and Sollio Agriculture is adapting its model to continue supporting its members and customers. And as business solutions professionals, our agri-advisors are proud to share their knowledge and contribute to an agriculture industry that combines productivity and sustainability.
