Sustainable agriculture
Our 2025 research farm projects
The Innovation Team at Sollio Agriculture’s research farm conducts trials to support farmers and agri-advisors who want to adopt profitable, sustainable agricultural practices. Here’s what our researchers are working on for the 2025 season.
Herbicide banding, drones and smart sprayers: Our latest trial results
In 2024, the team at Sollio Agriculture’s research farm conducted many research projects in sustainable agriculture. We tested a smart sprayer, herbicide banding, and the use of drone technology to sow cover crops, all in an effort to reduce risk indices and improve soil health. The results are promising, both agronomically and economically.
Second AgroCarbone Grandes Cultures workshop: The road to carbon farming
What does Québec’s agricultural industry need to get carbon farming up and running in the province? That was the question of the day as the expert partners working on the AgroCarbone Grandes Cultures initiative met for their second collaborative workshop in fall 2024.
The purpose of the workshop was to hash out a framework that could drive the adoption of carbon farming in Québec—and draw up a plan to implement it.
What is carbon farming?
Carbon farming is a fairly new concept in Québec. We’ve prepared this overview for anyone wondering just what it is and what it can look like in the field.
Carbon farming is based on the concept of carbon markets. The idea is to pay farmers for adopting sustainable agricultural practices. That means practices that reduce GHG emissions, sequester carbon in agricultural soils, or both.
How to calculate your farm’s carbon footprint—and why
Carbon footprinting is a crucial first step on the path to reducing your farm’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It’s a simple process if you know how to go about it—especially with a little help from Sollio Agriculture expert Saber Hamdani. Read on to learn more!
How quality forage can reduce GHG emissions
Dairy farmers often face a dilemma when it comes to increasing productivity or reducing GHG emissions. But there’s one thing you can do to help with both: work on your forage quality. And Sollio Agriculture’s agri-advisors, and livestock and crop production specialists are there to help you make it happen.
Sustainable farming: Our agri-advisors are here to help
Farmers who want to adopt best practices for sustainable agriculture need look no further than Sollio Agriculture’s agri-environmental agri-advisors, who are always up on the latest innovations and developments in the field.
As part of Congrès végétal 2024, agri-environmental agri-advisors from across Québec and Eastern Ontario came together for two day–long training sessions on sustainable farming.
